Have Blues, Will Travel

Have Blues, Will Travel

July 24th, 2021 - September 12th, 2021

“Have Blues, Will Travel” is inspired by the 2018 film "Green Book," directed by Peter Farrelly. The Green Book was a published tool that helped traveling Blues musicians find safe places to stay, eat, and perform. Although this film is informative, it leaves out several details about discrimination against Black people during the Great Migration and emphasized a white savior narrative. With the usage of artifacts, photographs, and songs, this exhibit encapsulates the true struggle that Black Blues musicians faced while traveling and shows that the Green Book was much more than a travel guide but rather a lifesaving tool.
