Opening Saturday, January 25th, 2025, 1968: A Folsom Redemption and Beyond Confinement: The Untold Stories come together to explore the profound impact of art on individuals affected by the incarceration system. 1968, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Johnny Cash’s legendary performances at one of the nation's first maximum-security prisons, offering a collection of photographs and memories from two journalists who were lucky enough to be among a handful of eyewitnesses to the historic concerts. This candid and personal photography exhibition covers a critical juncture in the career of Johnny Cash, one of the twentieth century's most beloved performers.  In dialogue with this historic moment, Beyond Confinement: The Untold Stories showcases the work of individual artists affected by the incarceration system. Featured artists include  Alberto Lule, Fulton Leroy Washington, Khadijah Silva, Nicholas Tirado, and others. Through their diverse mediums, these artists share personal narratives that illuminate the role of creative expression and emphasize the vital role of arts programming for those impacted by the system.   Together, the two exhibitions highlight the ongoing relevance of art as a vehicle for transformation, both within and beyond the walls of confinement.
